Duffy & Ward Brewing Co.™ Est. 1884 — Distinguished Company™

Duffy & Ward Brewing Co. is a Victorian-inspired craft beer brand built around twelve original characters, twelve traditional European and American beer styles, and a simple idea that resonates in any market: every bottle has a biography.

About Duffy and Ward

A Fully Realized Craft Beer Brand

Duffy & Ward is not a gimmick. It's not a costume. It's a fully realized Victorian-era brewery brand — branded within its fictional universe as "Est. 1884" — brought to life as a modern commercial product rooted in authentic European and American brewing traditions.

Our Pub Mascot

Saoirse

Nobody knows where Saoirse came from. One autumn evening, she appeared at the door of Duffy & Ward — soaking wet, impossibly red, outrageously beautiful — and simply refused to leave. Charlie Watts gave her a sausage. That was the end of it.

She is an Irish Setter of no particular pedigree and absolutely no obedience. She has never once responded to her own name, which is fitting since most people can't pronounce it anyway. She sleeps wherever she wants — behind the bar at Charlie's feet, on the best armchair in the Company Room, in a sunbeam by the window. She has never been invited to any of these places. She has never been successfully removed from any of them either.

She belongs to no one and everyone. Burton once tried to command her to sit. She looked at him with the quiet pity of a creature who has never taken an order and walked away. He has not tried since. Sloane pretends to be annoyed by her. This is unconvincing, as she is the one who named her — Saoirse, the Irish word for freedom. It was the only name that fit a dog who answers to nothing.

The Baron insists she is poorly bred. He also sneaks her cheese under the table when he thinks no one is watching. Brother Marcel sits with her in silence for hours — two old souls who understand that presence is enough. Reggie wrestles with her after every shift. She always wins. Zu Zu lets her sit on her lap without complaint, because nothing bothers Zu Zu. Edmund walks his fields at dusk with Saoirse at his heel, and neither of them needs to say a word. Prince Rohan throws cricket balls for her. She retrieves them badly and he finds this delightful. Moses sits with her quietly on the bench outside — no fuss, just company. Virgil lets her ride the trains with her ears in the wind. And Krieger once watched her bark a squirrel out of a tree and promoted her to Corporal on the spot.

She is the only member of the Distinguished Company who has never paid for a drink, never bought a meal, and never once been asked to leave. She is also the only one who could not care less about any of it.

Sloane pours a small dish of water for her every morning and sets it by the bar. Saoirse drinks it when she's good and ready. Which is to say — on her terms. Everything is on her terms.

That's Saoirse. The only soul in the building who has never taken an order, never followed a rule, and never once considered changing. And the whole pub loves her for it.

Free Spirit. Utterly Untrainable. Won't Come When Called
